Howard Thomas 2nd May 2022

Peter was always in my life. He was friends with my Dad, at Oxford University and they both witnessed Roger Bannister smash the 4-minute barrier for the mile. Best man at my Mum and Dad's wedding in the 1950s, & became my sister Kay's Godfather when she was born. Peter eventually became a Mathematics teacher and went on to be a Housemaster at Christ's Hospital School in Horsham, West Sussex in England, where he taught for over nearly 20 years (retiring in 1992-sadly the same year my Mother died) When my Mum and Dad divorced in 1981, Peter a lifelong bachelor started a relationship that led to my Mum's happiest years of her life and marriage. Peter wasn't just taking on my Mum when they married, but 3 grown up and in many ways lost children. His guidance, patience, and love have helped me become a proper loving parent to my family and I hope a good husband to Bronwyn Thomas. We all referred to Peter as 'Grandpa in Horsham' Peter was an inspiration to us as children and I will never forget watching a slide show in the early 1970s of his world trip (when he visited our home) and for the first time seeing New Zealand and Australia on slides. Something inside stirred me that day and I always knew that I wanted to travel to the ends of the earth (I didn't do to bad a job of that, having lived outside the UK for more than half of my life). Sadly Peter passed away just 3 weeks shy of his 90th birthday this month, and we as a family are so sad. I am so pleased that I made the effort to ring every few weeks over the last 18 months and that he knew how we were doing as a family and that we loved him and he us. A lover of Horseracing and avid game player- He invented games and we all loved his 'Race game'. I/we will never forget you Peter - my dog Tigger became your dog when I joined the Royal Air Force and your sense of adventure was astounding. Love from Howard, Bronwyn, and The 3Ts (Tahali, Telita and Troy) xxxx
